Andrew Carroll trained in Architecture and Interior Design before deciding to pursue a degree and Master’s degree in Visual Arts Practice at IADT Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin. He also has trained as a Group Arts Facilitator (Crawford School of Art), and holds a Level 8 qualification in that practice. He runs a bijou school of visual art in Cork called ‘Visions School of Art’, the ethos of which is bookended – one one hand – by a concern with developing art-skills, and – on the other – with developing creativity and enhancing imagination in the adult learner.
‘Painting from Your Core’ is a way to approach one’s own total personal process in a visual way, and is thus just as much about understanding how process ‘works’ as it is about anything finally produced; the latter is often archetypal imagery relating to where one is in one’s life. This presentation will be useful to anyone who wishes to explore the visual channel as used in Process Work.
A basic tenet of ‘Painting from Your Core’ is that the painter must hand over control of a painting’s unfolding to something other than himself/herself. Andrew has run practical workshops exploring ‘Painting from Your Core’ for over 2 years now, both to develop students’ understanding and also his own insight, using the workshops as practice-led research through facilitation-work.
