Our research project is related to extreme states and coma in the context of life-threatening situations in intensive care units in technologically advanced hospitals. Since 1997 we have co-operatively developed a practical and teaching approach bridging process and ministerial work, as chaplains enjoying free access to intensive care units in Germany. We will present our findings of years of experience, little by little developing our concepts and a curriculum for the work in these vital situations. We have formulated questions about:
- The meaning of the intensive care unit as a place, and the role of the body
- Signal work and feedback orientation in coma work with extreme states
- Dreamland, archaic and shamanistic states, mythology, anthropology and evolutionary biology
- The will to live, the four attentions and spiritual research
We will present, share case stories, dialogue, get in touch with impossible situations and include the experience of the field.
